The Kashmiri Strategic Alliance
Kashmir is an area of the Himalayas, controlled in part by three countries: India, Pakistan, and China. There is fierce fighting between Pakistan and India, while the Kashmiri people want to be govern themselves. Most Kashmiris live off the land as peasant farmers. Their flocks produce the rich wool, Cashmere.
Kashmiris are Sunni Muslims, following a strict code of conduct and heavily influenced by Muslim mystics and Persian culture. Those who convert to Christianity are viewed as immoral, degenerate people and are persecuted by their Muslim neighbors. Many, as in other Muslim cultures, have heard of Jesus Christ, but view him merely as a prophet and teacher.
Opportunities: Teaching English, Trekking and praying, ecological education project with elementary age children, business and development.
