We live in a world where slavery is all too commonplace. The crime of human trafficking occurs not only in the shadows but also in plain sight. The Backyard Academy is an opportunity for you to acquire new abolitionist tactics to combat modern-day slavery.
Only by rethinking advocacy throughout the scope of smart-activism and by equipping ourselves, can a movement with lasting effect take hold, creating holistic change in our world.
Academy Tracks:
In addition to the corporate meetings, there will be breakout sessions. Participants choose a topic that they would like to partake in, and follow that track throughout the three day academy.
Just Market Advocates: Everyday we unwittingly perpetuate the crime of human trafficking by purchasing goods that are made using forced labor. Learn how you can help eradicate modern-day slavery by researching company supply-chains and how changing your purchasing habits can free people around the globe.
Mobilizing Faith Communities: Learn why faith communities are integral in the fight against modern-day slavery and how by joining the Abolitionist Faith Network, you can help set the captives free.
Investigation 101: Learn how to identify and document public cases of modern-day slavery by examining the anatomy of human trafficking cases. Explore how to work with fellow abolitionists to eradicate slavery in your own backyards.
Innovative aftercare: Every day children, woman and men are bought and sold. When emancipated, they face the battle of restoring their life. The aftercare track is designed to allow you to learn about cutting-edge techniques to provide support, care and restoration for survivors of human trafficking.
Healthcare Professionals: They are on the front lines of the battle to identify and assist victims and survivors of human trafficking. Come learn how you, as a healthcare provider, can be a part of the modern-day abolitionist struggle.
